“Game of the Year as awarded by over 40 top magazines and websites”
Critically hailed as one of the best games of all time, Deus Ex draws you into a doomed world of chaos and paranoia, as civilization nears collapse, a conspiracy bent of world domination emerges from the shadows of legend. The conspirator’s greatest Strength? No one believes they exist. No one but you.
- Immerse yourself in a realm of unparalleled interactivity that tightens its grips on you the closer you get to its core.
- Eliminate, elude or extract information from those who hunt you down using stealth, strategy, or sheer fire power.
- Will you be the charismatic master manipulator, the shrewd tactician, or the deadly avenging angel?
The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly, killing thousands, while drugs, disease, and pollution kill even more. The world's economics are close to collapse, and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor has grown to the size of the Grand Canyon. Worst of all, believers of an age-old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control. No one believes the conspiracy exists--no one but you. The adaptation of this role-playing adventure for the PlayStation2 retains all of the levels and missions of the PC original.
You are J.C. Denton, a powerful, nanotechnologically augmented anti-terrorist agent. It's up to you to stop the conspirators from achieving their goals. But this world is full of lies and betrayal, a world where nothing is as it seems and entire nations can seemingly be turned against you at the push of a button. To succeed, you must travel the globe in a quest for knowledge, develop your character's nanotech augmentations and strengths as you see fit, build a network of allies to assist you, and determine when stealth and strategy are more important than action. And each time you think you've got the mystery solved and the game figured out, there's another, deeper mystery to unravel. You will never know whom to trust, who your friends are, who's in the conspiracy, and who's innocent. Maybe no one is.
A mini review by me, TFG:
Let me start off by saying this cheap PS2 game is a port from the PC, and you can get the PC version free from GameTap, and only very cheap for PS2. Deus Ex is number 13 on my favorite video games of all times list; yes I have a list, don’t judge me. This video game is an RPS/FPS that blends stealth, strategy, and brute force perfectly. In every situation you have the choice to sneak around by going in vents, underwater, crouched, etc.. The choice to shoot everything that moves with the wide selection of guns and ammo, and the choice to use you words; get people on your good side, and they may pull some strings for you. All in all the game play is very enjoyable, not unlike the story. The video game puts you in a world that is in chaos, and lets you choose your own path. The video game has three drastically different endings based on the choices you make throughout the game. Deus Ex has huge value especially considering how cheap it is; it will take up about 40 hours of your life, but those hours are well worth it. I must warn that anyone who is impatient should not get this game because load screens are frequent, but worth the wait.
